Which resume format should you use?

Reverse-chronological

Most recent role first. This is what recruiters expect and what parsers handle best. Use it unless you have a specific reason not to.

Functional

Groups content by skill and de-emphasizes dates. It parses poorly and recruiters read it as concealment. Even with employment gaps, a chronological layout with a short honest note usually performs better.

Combination

A skills block above a chronological history. Reasonable for senior technical roles where the stack matters as much as the sequence. Keep the skills block short and keep the dates.
